So last Sunday I was just wrapping up a maternity shoot and was driving home down Lincoln Memorial Drive when I saw them dashing to the shore.
The air temperature was around 20 degrees Fahrenheit with a steady wind coming in off the lake. The sun was shining bright. One of those deceitful days that looks amazingly warm but in reality is unashamedly cold. But why let a little bitter air stop you–this is Wisconsin, damn it! Cold is what we do!
With waves around 6 feet near the shore and more than 20 footers on the horizon these dedicated Great Lake Surfers took advantage of gorgeous winter swell.
And so did I.
These guys were catching wave after wave. Unlike you might see Ocean Surfers at times, these dudes weren’t fighting over breaks. They didn’t have to. They were plentiful. I was so lucky to have captured this amazing session by these dudes.
And then this happened 🙂
The stoke was real brothers and sisters. This dude straight killed it.
So glad I got to capture these moments. You never know what you will see when you go about your day. I was lucky to have had all my gear in tow as I had just wrapped up a shoot. But remember what our friend Chase Jarvis says–the best camera is the one that is with you. Even if I only had my iPhone–it was worth it!
And it was totally worth dusting up my absolute best pair of Puma’s!
